Equipment

As per usual we ran into a snag when trying to scrape the field. Blade on the tractor isn't heavy enough to make a dint in it. Next step is to look into renting a heavy earth mover. Got to check around for best price on renting. Also decided to look into bating an old pond on the property as a back up plan. Stay tuned to see what happens. Only a month and a half till opening day!!

Clearing Land

A few pictures of the spot I picked to put the duck pond. I bush hogged the location, but I left most of the hay field standing to keep plenty of concealment brush around pond.

Construction To Begin

Look for new photos and info as myself and the alabamacatfish (youtube fame) attempt to grade a low spot on the farm to create a pond. This will be a new endeavor for both of us. The plan is to grade this year and make sure we are low enough to hold an ample amount of water apx 8in is what were shooting for. Once this is accomplish we will legally bait pond and remove all bait a minimum of ten days prior to hunting. Then this year we will just try to work birds in from the near by swamps and ponds. Next year we plan to plant the field around the pond with corn and or millet. Stay tuned for further updates, it should be an adventure!!

Also don't forget to Check Out  alabamacatfish on youtube we have a couple of hunting videos up now!

Early Goose

Early goose season has started and not many people are taking advantage! Not sure why? It has been very hot and that means snakes! I know a lot of hunters who don't care to put their dogs or themselves in the same waters with the dreaded cotton mouth! Also its hard to miss the start of college football to hunt the same geese that we see all over the golf course, river banks and subdivision ponds all year. Plus most geese don't migrate anymore and keep to areas where hunting isn't allowed. Last but not least it really isn't good for much but jerky!!
